The guy i like wont add me to facebook?

the guy i knew since 4th grade wont add me to facebook. when i lived in new york we both liked each other but we never went out so i moved and later found him on facebook i sent him a request but he wont accept and i know he been on because i could see what he writs on his wall what do i do ? does he want to be friends?
